WELCOME TO IPL

Indian Premier League, famously known as IPL, is one of the most watched cricket tournament in the world. Though it is an Indian tournament, it has players from many cricket playing nations across the world. IPL is also broad-casted live on internet by youtube. In the first three seasons of the tournament, there were eight teams. But in the fourth season, two new teams were added. This resulted in more matches, excitement and fun. IPL is played during Indian summer. Except one, all the seasons have been played in India. Indian people are known worldwide for their love of cricket. Indian Premier League (IPL) was started after adoptation of T20 cricket, a new form of cricket, by ICC. IPL has total ten teams, namely a) Mumbai Indians, b) Royal Challengers Bangalore, c) Hydrabad Deccan Chargers d) Chennai Super Kings e) Delhi Daredevils f) Kings XI Punjab, g) Kolkata Knight Riders h) Rajasthan Royals i) Pune Warriors India and j) Kochi Tuskers Kerala

Over the last few years, T20 cricket has become popular. Having just 40 overs in the match, it is the quickest form of the cricket. So every team gets twenty overs to bat. This number is too less to bat slowly. As a results batsmen play fast, giving all the excitement and fun to the spectators. No wonder T20 cricket has got the reputation of the most spectator friendly form of the cricket. IPL has Indian cricket giants like Sachin Tendulkar, Sehwag, Dhoni, etc. This attracts their Indian fans to watch the series. In last few seasons these Indian cricket starts have proven their worth in this form of cricket too. At 36, Sachin Tendulkar was the leading run-scorer of third season of the IPL. Now inclusion of two more teams in the IPL has risen the bar of excitement. Though, some fear that increase in number of matches will reduce the viewers interest in the series, others argue that it will bring more fun.

IPL matches are played in venues spread all across India. Only second season was played outside India, in South Africa. Nonetheless, it too got the same acceptance and popularity as Indian versions of the series. IPL has given young and talented Indian cricketers to show their talent. Something that would not have been possible without this series. The presence of cheer-leaders was heavily criticized in India. Some called it unnecessary, whereas others called it as distraction from the game. But despite criticism, their presence on the ground has given more fun to the spectators.

IPL was also remembered for some wrong reasons like parties, Indian cinema celebrities, team owners and other controversies. In the last season of the IPL, a south-African cheer-girl was fired for sharing some details of parties and for commenting about the players on her twitter account. Such isolated incidents have only resulted in increasing the popularity of the IPL. This series has everything. It has sport. It has glamor. It has fun. It has excitement. It has disappointment. It has joy. It has sadness. Despite its criticism, the IPL has been loved and will be loved all over the world. The IPL lovers are eagerly waiting for the next season which will be played in April 2012.
