Australian cricket great Adam Gilchrist believes the Indian Premier League could well help put an end to the hostility that has soured recent India versus Australia matches.
Gilchrist, whose services for the eagerly anticipated cricketing revolution were secured by Hyderabad, has witnessed several unsavoury incidents during India’s tour Down Under, temper tantrums that the New South Wales native hopes are set to be a thing of the past.
“I think the situation this summer has got out of hand somewhat,” the soon to retire Gilchrist told Australia’s Daily Telegraph newspaper ahead of Sunday’s first CBS final.
“Hopefully, over the next week we’ll see some great cricket, the CBS series will finish and we’ll all just move on and forget the almost tit-for-tat reactions that have been going on.”
“That’s where I see something like the IPL being ground-breaking territory. That’s going to be an opportunity for players around the world to get to meet, know and understand opposition cultures and customs. I think that’s going to be a very positive offshoot of IPL.
“Any World XI team I’ve ever played in there’s always been a great camaraderie in the rooms,” he added.
