Surrey declines IPL’s offer for Mark Ramprakash

Alright people Mark Ramprakash is not coming to IPL. Who is Ramprakash some of you might ask? Well, he represented England in the early 20th century before the First World War. No, I am just being sarcastic. Mark Ramprakash represented England between 1991 and 2002 sporadically giving glimpses of his much touted batting talent. He is currently playing first class cricket for Surrey.
Rajasthan Royals had communicated their interest in him to the Surrey management, which the county declined after giving it diligent thought.

Michael Vaughan, the English captain with a puritanical countenance, has enunciated his displeasure at the IPL ban on English players. Vaughan feels that the ban imposed by the ECB is naïve. “I’ve heard so many people say that all the best players in the world are there and you want to go and play in it,” the English skipper said. His statement is a little out of the blue as Kevin Pietersen has been functioning as the English team’s official spokesperson on IPL matters hitherto.

Meanwhile, IS Bindra, member of IPL’s governing council and soon-to-be ICC’s principal advisor, bristled at the idea of English players rejecting their national contracts to play in the IPL. “We will not have any player revolting against their establishment and becoming part of the IPL,” he explicitly told BBC Sport.

They will discuss possible measures to retain the competition’s position as the premier Twenty20 domestic tournament in the world. One possible measure, though very audacious, might be the establishment of an IPL-type league in England to directly take the fight to the IPL.

Atlast someone makes his views! England batsman Kevin Pietersen says he and the other centrally-contracted players should be allowed to join the Indian Premier League (IPL).
The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) currently does not allow England players to join the lucrative league despite international players from the rest of the world playing in the six-week limited overs tournament.
Pietersen says he and the rest of the England team are being treated unfairly and that the ECB should not stand in the way of players increasing their earning potential.

Setanta eyes up a bigger prize

Setanta Sports
Cricket fans in England who were up in arms when Sky Sports were given an exclusive four-year deal to televise all England’s home matches live have fortified themselves with the hope that come 2009, when the existing contract is up for renewal, the BBC or Channel 4 will re-enter the fray and bring coverage back to free-to-air terrestrial TV.

However, a new player has emerged on the scene in the form of Setanta Sports, a rival to Sky but one with far fewer subscribers. Last month Setanta secured the rights to broadcast the Indian Premier League - neither Sky nor any terrestrial channel bid - and it has now set its sights on the bigger prize.
