Eden match ticket sales soar

Shah Rukh Khan’s Knight Riders has already raked in Rs 3 crore from the ticket sales of its second home match to be played against Mumbai Indians at Kolkata’s Eden Gardens on April 29.

The team bagged Rs 4 crore from ticket sales from its first match in Kolkata on April 20 against Hyderabad Deccan Chargers.

According to Samar Paul, joint secretary of Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB), “Almost all tickets have been sold out except a handful that are priced at Rs 655. These too will be sold out on April 29 morning. There will be room for 6,000 more spectators this time at Eden Gardens since Shah Rukh Khan is not doing any live performance this time and therefore the seats that were removed for his security last time could be used again.”

Indian Premier League (IPL) fever is fast spreading among Calcuttans. With D-day approaching and the Kolkata Knight Riders’ players sweating it out under the watchful eyes of John Buchanan at the Eden, the demand for tickets has increased further.

The entire quota of tickets that went on sale for Sunday’s match was sold out within hours of the counters opening on Monday. It was the first day tickets were made available to the public.

Mumbai stadium
MUMBAI: Mumbai Indians franchise team have started the sale of tickets online for their home league matches in the DLF Indian Premier League for the matches in the city which will be played at two venues - the Wankhede Stadium and the D Y Patil Stadium at Nerul in Navi Mumbai.

The ticket sale started on Saturday. The first match of the Mumbai Indians will be against the Bangalore Royal Challengers at the Wankhede Stadium on April 20.

With just five days to go for its inaugural match, ticket sales for the Twenty20 cricket tournament of the multi-million-rupee Indian Premier League (IPL) is yet to take off in a big way.

Only a handful of teams have started sales of their tickets while others are still pondering on a suitable date.

The hype generated by inaugural IPL has already added to the excitement of fans who would be eager to see the international stars rub shoulders with national and domestic players in a unique format.

But it seems they will have to scamper for tickets at the last minute.

Hyderabad: DLF IPL franchisee Deccan Chargers on Thursday announced that the sale of tickets for the Twenty20 matches in the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad, Vijayawada, Vishakapatnam and Bhubaneswar from April 12.

The cricket-loving fans would now be able to buy tickets to witness the grand high octane league matches at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket stadium. In the first match in Hyderabad on April 22 when Deccan Chargers will face Delhi Daredevils.

IPL tickets to range from Rs 100 to Rs 12000

With eight days left for the launch of the Indian Premier League, several franchises have started selling tickets for the matches. The prices range from Rs 100 [approx US$2.5] to 250 [approx $6.25] at the lower end and Rs 5000 [$125] to 12,000 [$300] for the corporate boxes. Tickets are already available online for the games to be held in Kolkata and Mohali, while the rest will be available from April 11.

While the likes of Kolkata, Bangalore, Hyderabad and Chennai have their premium tickets priced pegged at approximately Rs 5000, Mohali is charging Rs 12,000 for tickets for seats in the premium South End pavilion.

A city court on Tuesday refused to grant free tickets to the 31,000 Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) members for the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) matches to be played at Eden Gardens here.

Judge Anindita Roy Saraswati of the City Civil Court did not pass any interim order on the application by Bengal Cricket Lovers’ Forum for giving free tickets to the CAB members for the matches organised by Shah Rukh Khan’s Red Chillies Entertainment.

Calcutta: The Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) members will have to buy tickets to watch the Indian Premier League matches at the Eden.

CAB president Prasun Mukherjee said on Saturday that there would be no complimentary passes and ticket sales might get underway from April 1.

He also hinted that the association would have to remain content with the 20 per cent quota of tickets in each block.
