MUMBAI: In a season of controversies surrounding creative standards and ethics in Indian advertising, here’s the latest. The official DLF Indian Premier League (IPL) television promo — Cricket Ka Karmayudh — created by the ad agency Ogilvy & Mather India and directed by Prasoon Pandey of Corcoise Films, finds itself in the eye of a storm.

The ad is under severe censure for being heavily inspired by a five-year-old Fox Sports TV commercial for a baseball match featuring the Yankees. The bone of contention is the ‘ink splash’ treatment that has been used in the IPL film to accentuate the heightened cricketing action on the field. The original ad for the Yankees has the same treatment — only here it is baseball players doing the throwing, running, diving and catching.

An Indian Premier League (IPL) advertisement seems to have got off on the wrong foot with fans of the Chennai Super Kings.
The TV ad involves an uptight woman, who is a fan of the Kolkata Knight Riders, accusing a nerdy-looking fellow in an elevator (supposedly a South Indian and a fan of the Chennai Super Kings) of feeling her up. The ad has put off quite a few fans who believe the ad reinforces stereotypes of a docile, South Indian male being bullied by a dominating woman.
